I had not been in Brazil for thirty years and could not imagine that such exquisite beauty, quietude, and hospitality were available only one hour away by car from Rio. In my ten days at Vista Alegre, there were many aspects that helped me connect more deeply with myself, nature and others: the refreshing waterfall and its swimmable pond, the mighty rocks, the artful display of trees, shrubs and flowers, the delicious food and wines, the simple and elegant comfort of the houses, the attentive care and joie de vivre of our hostesses, the links with the local community, the quality of the retreat, and the rich diversity of the participants. I believe that deep work on oneself and with others can best be done in a sacred, inviting place where every detail counts: Vista Alegre is definitely one of these few places and I intend to enjoy being there again before long.
